To Lebo: We got the message

After the sad and untimely death of pop diva Lebo Mathosa (may your sweet soul rest in peace, I learned to like you), I could not help but notice how most of my passengers would immediately wear a seat-belt as soon as they jump into my ride.

I always wear a seat-belt (a habit that I got into a while ago due to a chaotic lifestyle) and the front seat passenger would always ask if I do not mind if they do not wear a seat-belt and I would always say it is up to them. I do not get that question anymore. I have also been told more often that I am a fast driver.

Why did it have to take a Lebo to get us to heed the dangers of the road and appreciate the value of life?

Yeah, I got into the habit of wearing a seatbelt, because I had spent 2 years driving without a license and did not want the cops to pull me over for not wearing one, and get arrested for being an illegal driver.

It's a habit I can't shake, and force passengers to wear one, or else the car don't move, unless I am in the hood, can't be caught dead with a seat belt in Alexandra, it's just not kewl.

I guess I'm just a pain in the arse, cause I insist on passengers (in the front or back) wearing their seatbelt if they get into my car. I am responsible for them as the driver after all, and I'd be very upset if there was an accident and a friend or one of my family members got killed when it could have been prevented.
I think we all need to be held accountable for our behaviour on the road. A mistake or arrogant reckless attitude can kill you, your loved ones or someone else's loved ones... and if it is you that survives, you'd be the one who'd have to live with it for the rest of your life.
